This rather unique looking dinghy at Yarmouth Town Landing (in Yarmouth, Maine) caught my eye immediately – the shape of it, the color, and the wooden slats running down the middle inside the boat. The rope tied to those slats added another interesting detail. Also the reflections in the water were appealing to me. I just love the details of older dinghies with character like this – and the abstract feel of the composition was fun to work up as well here. As you can see from the work-in-progress photo, I painted in the details of the main subject last – having already done the other dinghy and the water. By the way, I upgraded to a full-size floor-standing studio easel since this photo was taken. 🙂

  1. Thanks, Page! Have to admit it’s one of my personal favorites too. And it sold right out of the gate when I originally posted it to Facebook last year. Happy it has a nice home, but I sort of miss it too. Do you ever feel that way when you sell a painting?
